As a Location Planner, you’ll work in the Retail Property team, conducting complex analysis on a wide range of locations, helping to support and develop our national portfolio plan. About the role

Coles have announced that they have ambitious store opening plans for the future. Reporting to the Head of Network Planning, you will be at the heart of this growth story as you advise where to open new stores across Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. Duties & responsibilities

  • Setting the long term growth strategy for the Coles Group (Food, Liquor and Convenience) across QLD, WA, SA and NT.
  • Providing accurate sales forecasts for proposals for new stores and renewals
  • Providing and presenting insight on the retail market to ELT
  • Leading an area of change across the Network Planning Function (e.g. Liquor, CEXP, Strategy, Accuracy)
  • Managing a team of 5-6 skilled analysts

Skills & experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification; Geography, Town Planning, Economics, Property etc.
  • Previous Network Planning experience, preferably with a large retailer or specialist retail/ property consultancy
  • Clear demonstration of driving change processes within a team
  • Presenting property proposals and insight to Board Directors/ General Managers
  • Strong ability to lead and develop a team
  • Ability to work with a number of data sources
  • Strong skills in analysing data, conducting reviews, and trending results in order to identify and drive sales building opportunities

This is an opportunity to join a technically accomplished team of Data Scientists and Analysts in a wide-ranging role combining technical project work, consultancy services, project management and sales support.

CACI’s location planning team work on a wide variety of projects across the retail, leisure, finance, property and public sectors in the UK and internationally. Project work includes building statistical/mathematical models, using predictive/forecasting techniques and performing in-depth geographical analysis. This ultimately leads to providing recommendations, bespoke analysis and consultancy services to enable our clients to enhance and develop their location and customer strategies.

The successful candidate is likely to be someone with 3-5 years’ experience of building and using statistical models to examine network performance, outlet/branch functions and provide customer understanding within a retail, property, leisure or high street finance environment. A good knowledge of the UK geography is required, with European experience a distinct advantage; as is an understanding of statistical modelling techniques and awareness of issues affecting high street and consumer led businesses.

The role requires good problem solving skills and the ability to be pragmatic and apply knowledge of retail and geography to ensure recommendations are practical and in-line with client objectives. A high degree of client contact will be involved from the outset and therefore candidates should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be comfortable presenting to senior audiences.

  • Educated to at least degree level in a subject with high numerical content (e.g. mathematics, applied statistics, operational research, economics, engineering, geography)

Property Consulting provide consumer-led research and consulting services to a number of property owners, investors and developers within the retail industry both in the UK and overseas. We have experienced significant double digit growth in consulting revenues, with centre-based consumer surveys accounting for more than 50% of our business. The Property Consultant’s role is primarily the delivery of a variety of projects including retail impact analysis, tenant mix analysis, sales forecasts, floorspace capacity analysis, customer performance & survey analysis, competitive positioning and marketing strategies. Working within a busy team, analysts are expected to take ownership of their projects from inception to completion, ensuring high analytical standards, clear conclusions and prompt delivery. The role involves significant contact with external parties including representatives of the client, key project team professionals (typically planners, property agents and marketing advisors) and other stakeholders (e.g. potential occupiers, local authorities and investors).

Core skills, knowledge, experience required

The ideal candidate, as well as being a highly motivated self-starter, will have the following skills:

  • Numerate degree (2:1 or above) preferably Mathematics, Statistics or Geography.
  • Sound IT literacy and hands-on PC experience enabling you to apply this in a business environment.
