Key responsibilities

This is an opportunity to join a technically accomplished team of Data Scientists and Analysts in a wide-ranging role combining technical project work, consultancy services, project management and sales support.

CACI’s location planning team work on a wide variety of projects across the retail, leisure, finance, property and public sectors in the UK and internationally. Project work includes building statistical/mathematical models, using predictive/forecasting techniques and performing in-depth geographical analysis. This ultimately leads to providing recommendations, bespoke analysis and consultancy services to enable our clients to enhance and develop their location and customer strategies.

The successful candidate is likely to be someone with 3-5 years’ experience of building and using statistical models to examine network performance, outlet/branch functions and provide customer understanding within a retail, property, leisure or high street finance environment. A good knowledge of the UK geography is required, with European experience a distinct advantage; as is an understanding of statistical modelling techniques and awareness of issues affecting high street and consumer led businesses.

The role requires good problem solving skills and the ability to be pragmatic and apply knowledge of retail and geography to ensure recommendations are practical and in-line with client objectives. A high degree of client contact will be involved from the outset and therefore candidates should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be comfortable presenting to senior audiences.

Core skills, knowledge, experience required

  • Educated to at least degree level in a subject with high numerical content (e.g. mathematics, applied statistics, operational research, economics, engineering, geography)
  • Genuine interest in pursuing a career in the following areas: location planning consultancy, retail location strategy, demographic/customer analysis/insight
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills (Access is also desirable but not essential)
  • Good presentation skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UK geography
  • Knowledge of the UK retail landscape
  • Excellent written/verbal English

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Exposure to and/or appreciation of GIS software and its applications
  • Experience of working with international retailers
  • Experience of working with European demographic data
  • Knowledge of another major European language other than English (e.g. German, French, Spanish etc.)
  • Knowledge of SAS, SPSS or similar statistical package, and/or other programming experience (e.g. VBA, SQL)
  • Knowledge of BI dashboard tools such as QlikView, Tableau or Excel’s Power View is an advantage

About the business division

The Location Strategy & Analytics team, based in our head office in Kensington, London, is responsible for delivering geographically based analysis and insight to clients. We provide consultancy, tools and recommendations to help our clients develop an optimal locational strategy fitting their customer base, operational requirements, business drivers and company objectives. Projects typically last between a week to 6 months, ranging from performance analysis and customer profiling and understanding through to development of fully customised spatial interaction models. We work closely with our clients to ensure we understand their aims and objectives, incorporate their feedback and knowledge, and develop a solution to meet their business needs.
