We’re investing hugely in our Online division, leading the charge for the retail industry and, right now, we’re looking for a Senior Network Strategy Planner to bring even greater focus to our Online offering.

In a nutshell

You’ll oversee the Online expansion strategy planning process through robust network and location planning modelling. It’s about identifying growth opportunities and supporting the delivery of a strategic Online Property network plan. Not to mention recommending priority areas for investment, be they new, extended, replaced or consolidated operations.

As a Senior Network Strategy Planner, you’ll

  • Develop and maintain a live network plan to support long-term growth for the online channel, owning a rolling 5 year strategic property plan that enables us to make confident investment recommendations
  • Work in close consultation with Finance, Forecasting, Property and Online Operational Development teams to ensure that needs of stakeholders are incorporated into the plan
  • Co-develop the Online Demand Surface, ensuring we understand everything about our Online shoppers
  • Apply advanced GIS skills to ensure we present, interpret and model our data spatially
  • Identify key sales and customer trends for our recent investments, ensuring that new information is incorporated into the capacity model and the future assessment of online developments

You’ll need

  • Advanced Excel, GIS (MapInfo preferably) and PowerPoint skills
  • The ability to present complex analysis in clear and engaging ways to senior stakeholders
  • Expert knowledge of the make-up of UK Grocery market and online operators
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills
  • The ability and confidence to challenge and stretch thinking beyond business as usual
  • A wealth of experience within retail property / site research industry

About the role

Coles have announced that they have ambitious store opening plans for the future. Reporting to the Head of Network Planning, you will be at the heart of this growth story as you advise where to open new stores across Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. You will determine the level of sales that they could generate across our Food, Liquor and Fuel businesses.

Ably supported by a talented team, a key part of the role will be leading and developing the team to continued success.

Please note this role is based in our Store Support Centre in Melbourne and there will be some travel involved; anticipating two days interstate travel per month.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Setting the long term growth strategy for the Coles Group (Food, Liquor and Convenience) across QLD, WA, SA and NT.
  • Providing accurate sales forecasts for proposals for new stores and renewals
  • Providing and presenting insight on the retail market to ELT
  • Leading an area of change across the Network Planning Function (e.g. Liquor, CEXP, Strategy, Accuracy)
  • Managing a team of 5-6 skilled analysts

Skills & experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification; Geography, Town Planning, Economics, Property etc.
  • Previous Network Planning experience, preferably with a large retailer or specialist retail/ property consultancy
  • Clear demonstration of driving change processes within a team
  • Presenting property proposals and insight to Board Directors/ General Managers
  • Strong ability to lead and develop a team
  • Ability to work with a number of data sources
  • Strong skills in analysing data, conducting reviews, and trending results in order to identify and drive sales building opportunities
  • Confidence to voice your own opinion and provide independent advice

The job

You’ll be responsible for setting the long term growth strategy for the Coles Group across supermarkets, liquor, fuel and online. Your primary function will be to provide accurate sales forecasts for new store proposals, as well as providing and presenting insights on the retail market to senior managers. The key internal customers for this role stretch across Property, Finance, Store Development, Marketing and Operations.

Your experience

You’ll have previous network planning experience, most likely within a large retail organisation or retail consultancy. Clear demonstration of driving change processes within a team and presenting property proposals to senior managers is key to the success of this role. You’ll also have excellent communication skills and strong GIS and analytical expertise.

Skills and experience required

  • Degree and Post graduate qualifications in Economics/Commerce/Mathematics/ Statistics majors
  • Strong experience in statistical analysis/modelling as Network strategy development
  • Ability to problem solve and understand complex issues
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines in a pressured environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment will see you excel in this role
