What I need to do
- Develop and maintain a model to measure and track our network capacity in-order to inform our investment strategy. Understand and capture the operational realities (demand profiles, changing consumer trends, and productivity movements) to ensure we can model capacity accurately
- Responsible for ensuring that key databases and analytical tools uses across the Online Property team are kept up to date, with clean data that reconciles to internal and external sources. Develop and maintain our suite of databases to ensure they are user friendly and fit for purpose
- Identify and drive forward capacity enabling initiatives across the Online Operations and Online Operational Development teams. Employ strong analytical capabilities to quantify the size of the prize and our priorities
- Identify opportunities within the Online operating model and space utilisation to release additional capacity across the network
- Apply your advanced GIS skills to continually refine our network territories – balancing capacity, productivity and operational priorities. Work collaboratively with the Forecasting, Planning and Retail teams to successfully implement territory changes
- Work with the Online Network Strategy Planner to forecast growth projection for future capacity planning, built up from an innovative demand model. Ensure we can understand who the Online shopper is, where they live and how likely they are to shop with ourselves or competitors
- Improve the efficiency of processes used within Online Property by building and automating models using Visual Basic, SAS, Alteryx and associated tools as well as incorporating a spatial approach through the use of GIS
- Apply your skills and analytical capabilities to support other Online strategic priorities, potentially outside of the Online Property team (e.g. within Planning, Forecasting and Analytics). Champion the tools and benefits of spatial analytics and be the lead GIS user within the Online Division
- You’ll support the development and use of GIS tools across the Online Division
How I will succeed
- Responsible for ensuring the capacity and demand model used within Online are regularly updated with robust and accurate information; ensuring that models are used to their optimum to improve both the quality & efficiency of output
- Business cases for efficiency driving projects delivered to a high standard, communicating requirements and benefits in a clear, concise, easily understandable manner within agreed deadlines
- Drive the development of database enhancements to improve our knowledge base and the quality of the analysis going into strategic decisions
- Work with other members of the team to improve the timeliness and content of information used in Online Property
What I need to know
- How to use Excel to an advanced level
- Experience of designing and building complex models and simulations: Excel, SAS, Visual Basic, Alteryx
- Very strong knowledge of GIS (MapInfo preferable)
- Good PowerPoint capabilities
- Experience of working in an analytical roles and applying spatial insight methods
- Expert knowledge of statistical modelling and analysis techniques
- How to present complex analysis in clear and engaging ways to senior stakeholders
- The make-up UK Grocery market and it’s online operators
- Demonstrate good understanding of how GOL works in stores at an operational, organisational and cultural level, and use this to develop relationships and capacity / growth opportunities
What I need to show
- You’re highly numerate with first-rate analytical skills
- You have an eye for the detail and able to spot trends, themes and ideas that don’t always easily stand out
- Able to work with large data sets and digest accordingly
- You can work with multiple teams and support their analytical requirements – particularly where spatial modelling is required
- You’re able translate desktop analysis to operational reality
- Ability to combine analytical perspectives with a pragmatic approach
- You can apply inventive analytical solutions to help shape our Online Property strategy
- You’ll be able to challenge and stretch thinking beyond business as usual
- A strong interest in grocery and online retail
