Property Consulting provide consumer-led research and consulting services to a number of property owners, investors and developers within the retail industry both in the UK and overseas. We have experienced significant double digit growth in consulting revenues, with centre-based consumer surveys accounting for more than 50% of our business. This survey data is syndicated to form Shopper Dimensions which amounts to over 290,000 surveys across 140 centres in the UK. To support this continued growth, we have defined a new requirement for a Consultant to join the team.

The Property Consultant’s role is primarily the delivery of a variety of projects including retail impact analysis, tenant mix analysis, sales forecasts, floorspace capacity analysis, customer performance & survey analysis, competitive positioning and marketing strategies. Working within a busy team, analysts are expected to take ownership of their projects from inception to completion, ensuring high analytical standards, clear conclusions and prompt delivery. The role involves significant contact with external parties including representatives of the client, key project team professionals (typically planners, property agents and marketing advisors) and other stakeholders (e.g. potential occupiers, local authorities and investors).

Core skills, knowledge, experience required

The ideal candidate, as well as being a highly motivated self-starter, will have the following skills:

  • Numerate degree (2:1 or above) preferably Mathematics, Statistics or Geography.
  • Sound IT literacy and hands-on PC experience enabling you to apply this in a business environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity or experience of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) a plus*.
  • Good inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate technical results to non-technical individuals.
  • A sound understanding and appreciation of UK retailing and UK geography.
  • Proven report writing skills and the ability to distil conclusions from statistical outputs.

*Full GIS training will be given to the successful applicant

Desirable skills and experience

  • Some experience in location planning would be considered a plus.

  • Experienced in using statistical software for analysis of market research data and development of regression and other multivariate models.
  • Experience with using demographic data in retail market, site analysis or marketing research.
  • Experienced in working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree;

Role Purpose

This is an important role, working as a retail consultant to advise both retailers and landlords on profitable strategies. The applicant will need to enjoy both managing their own projects and working closely with others.
The analytical side of the role will involve frequently working with data in Excel, research and data gathering from internet sources, and mapping of data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Training and support will be provided but a years’ prior experience in a location planning or similar role are required.

An interest in retail is essential; the successful applicant will need to keep up-to-date with the latest trends in retail and show an enthusiasm for these developments.

You will be working as part of a small team of full-time faculty, researchers and administrators based in the School’s Oxford Institute of Retail Management, under the direction of the Academic Director of the Institute, who is also an Associate Director of CDRC. You will also work with members of the wider CDRC network in London, Liverpool and Leeds in developing and supporting a programme of engagement designed to enhance the impact of the centre and its data holdings with key stakeholders.

The successful candidate will devise an appropriate series of capacity-building workshops, events and other training to support the goals of the centre, ensuring that these enhance the reputation and reach of the CDRC and produce clearly defined outputs. You will also develop and enhance the communications activity of the CDRC, including authoring or co-authoring working papers, training materials, social media, website or blog content to further the capacity-building aims of the CDRC.

This is an opportunity to join a technically accomplished team in a wide-ranging role combining technical project work, consultancy services, project management and sales support.

CACI’s location planning team work on a wide variety of projects across the retail, leisure, finance, property and public sectors in the UK and internationally. Project work may include building statistical/mathematical models, using predictive/forecasting techniques and performing in-depth geographical analysis. This ultimately leads to providing recommendations, bespoke analysis and consultancy services to enable our clients to enhance and develop their location and customer strategies.

The ideal candidate’s background will be in an analytical role examining network performance and outlet/branch functions within retail, property, leisure or finance. Hence a good knowledge of the UK geography, statistical modelling techniques and issues affecting high street and consumer led businesses is required.
