The job

You’ll be responsible for setting the long term growth strategy for the Coles Group across supermarkets, liquor, fuel and online. Your primary function will be to provide accurate sales forecasts for new store proposals, as well as providing and presenting insights on the retail market to senior managers. The key internal customers for this role stretch across Property, Finance, Store Development, Marketing and Operations.

Your experience

You’ll have previous network planning experience, most likely within a large retail organisation or retail consultancy. Clear demonstration of driving change processes within a team and presenting property proposals to senior managers is key to the success of this role. You’ll also have excellent communication skills and strong GIS and analytical expertise.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The Market Planning analyst we’re looking for has a minimum of 2 years of statistical and site research experience in a retail or related environment.

Must haves:

  • Experienced in using statistical software for analysis of market research data and development of regression and other multivariate models.
  • Experience with using demographic data in retail market, site analysis or marketing research.
  • Experienced in working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree;
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to develop databases;
  • Ability to perform statistical, mathematical and financial modeling;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and statistical applications;
  • Familiarity with application of GIS and spatial analysis technology in market research environment;

Role Purpose

This is an important role, working as a retail consultant to advise both retailers and landlords on profitable strategies. The job will involve a varied mixture of analytical analysis alongside more qualitative work, including writing reports, attending meetings and presenting findings to clients. The applicant will need to enjoy both managing their own projects and working closely with others.
The analytical side of the role will involve frequently working with data in Excel, research and data gathering from internet sources, and mapping of data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Training and support will be provided but a years’ prior experience in a location planning or similar role are required.

An interest in retail is essential; the successful applicant will need to keep up-to-date with the latest trends in retail and show an enthusiasm for these developments.

You will be working as part of a small team of full-time faculty, researchers and administrators based in the School’s Oxford Institute of Retail Management, under the direction of the Academic Director of the Institute, who is also an Associate Director of CDRC. You will also work with members of the wider CDRC network in London, Liverpool and Leeds in developing and supporting a programme of engagement designed to enhance the impact of the centre and its data holdings with key stakeholders.

The successful candidate will devise an appropriate series of capacity-building workshops, events and other training to support the goals of the centre, ensuring that these enhance the reputation and reach of the CDRC and produce clearly defined outputs. You will also develop and enhance the communications activity of the CDRC, including authoring or co-authoring working papers, training materials, social media, website or blog content to further the capacity-building aims of the CDRC.

To be considered for this role, you will have evidence of relevant experience and knowledge in the field of consumer behaviour, marketing, retailing, information systems or data analysis.
