This panel session brings together some experienced Location Insight practitioners who have either moved on to other things or are heads of department. The panellists are:

Speaker/ panellist biographies
Jonathan Reynolds
Chair of the Society for Location Analysis
Deputy Dean & Associate Professor in Retail Marketing, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
Jonathan Reynolds is one of the leading academic experts in the study of the retail sector internationally.
He is Academic Director of the Oxford Institute of Retail Management, Associate Professor in Retail Marketing and Deputy Dean at Saïd Business School. He is also Deputy Director of the ESRC’s Consumer Data Research Centre.
Jonathan’s teaching and research focus primarily on the retail sector. He is particularly recognised for his scholarship and expertise in the areas of electronic commerce and omni-channel retailing, innovation and entrepreneurship in retailing, retail productivity and skills, and the role of place in marketing and retailing.
His views are sought after by businesses, policy makers and the media. He is heavily committed to knowledge exchanger, actively seeking to ensure that his research can be widely disseminated amongst policy-makers and practitioners. While his academic expertise lies in marketing and geography, Jonathan’s research activities have also extended into science and technology studies and strategic management.
Steve Halsall
Founding Director, Red Tiger Consulting
Steve is an experienced and well respected head hunter, location planner, trainer and coach. He has worked in analytics for over 25 years – with various senior roles in consulting and client side. He is also an experienced entrepreneur – having successfully started 5 businesses to date, two of which went on to be acquired.
His real passion is to help build successful teams that evolve their capability (skills, software and data) in order to meet the ever–changing requirements of analysis and insight.
In his spare time he is mainly kept busy with his two young children, following his beloved Liverpool FC and going on very long walks with his trusty working cocker spaniel. He is currently writing a book which he hopes to publish in 2022. For more information visit www.redtigerconsulting.co.uk.
Shazia Nunhuk
Associate, Red Tiger Consulting
Shazia is a final year Geography student at the University of Leeds and helped to crunch the data from the Survey results. She has also recently joined the Red Tiger team as an Associate to work on the Salary Survey research project.
Lisa Watson
Head of Property at EE
Lisa has 20 years experience working in location planning, at Boots, consulting for smaller retailers and now at EE / BT where she has spent the last 4½ years as Head of Retail Property & Location Planning.
Moving from high street retail to telecommunications and from a location planner to an estates surveyor, leading the EE Property team gives Lisa excellent insight into the similarities and differences in both industries and roles.
Rosa DeBalsi
Head of Capability at WELEDA UK
Rosa spent over 25 years working at Boots, most latterly as a Senior Location Planning Manager.
In 2013 she joined Weleda UK, a natural skincare brand, initially as Business Analyst in a newly created role.
She now works as Head of Capability, a diverse role that blends business analysis, strategy, and reporting with HR and cultural development, amongst other things.
Iain Sterland
Head of Property Analytics & Insight, Sainsbury’s
“Iain leads the Location Analysis Team in Sainsbury’s and is surprised and slightly alarmed to have clocked up 30 years of work!
Starting out with a degree in Econometrics and some programming skills he managed two stints at Boots with an interlude of self-employment before moving on to Sainsbury’s in 2013.
In Sainsbury’s his focus is on delivering leading insights into the UK’s local markets through the lens of demand, supply and omni-channel retailing and supporting the investment and location planning process with good data, tools and tech
